EC update: The Potty Pause
January 28, 2008 § Leave a comment
Some people say there is no such thing as a potty pause. It may be all in the eye of the beholder but bilingual baby is definitely going through a potty pause. She is also getting molars so I don’t think it’s an issue.
What’s a potty pause? It’s a time in the life of a child when they really don’t want to be on the potty. In bilingual baby’s case, she definitely lets me know that she is using her diaper as a potty but if I try to take her diaper off and put her on the potty, she sometimes gets upset so we let it go.
It’s different to be diapering almost 100% of the time and the diaper laundry is greater but it’ll only change, so why get attached to what it is now, right? Before the pause, we still had her in diapers but she’d let us take it off and put her on the potty. Now, like I said, she doesn’t care for it much. There’s nothing to do other than wait and change the wet diaper. What’s interesting is that she’s been waking in the middle of the night wanting us to take her to pee. How do we know? She quickly sits up and seems very focused. It’s hard to explain because it’s dark and I can’t see but you can tell. If she didn’t want to be taken, she’d just squirm a bit, roll over and we’d change her wet diaper.
That’s about it for the potty pause.
