Are you nuts?

This pacifier was recently recalled by the CPSC. I don’t have anything positive here to say and I’m gonna do what I need to do to get this off my chest (with editing a-plenty).
Hazard: The nipple can detach from the base, posing a choking hazard to young children.
Who is giving this pacifier to a baby? Could they really be in their right mind? Below is the description of the pacifier:
The recalled pacifier necklace has a 28-inch multicolored cord with a 3- inch plastic pacifier that comes in assorted colors. A hole at the tip of the nipple is used as a blow hole for the whistle. The pacifier handle operates as the on-off button for the flashing light on both pacifiers. “Flashing Pacifier” or “2-in-1 Flashing Pacifier with Whistle Necklace” is printed on the packaging of the pacifiers.
It’s a whistle!?! What _____ decided to manufacture this product to begin with? Who’s baby is whistling when they’d really rather suckle at their mom’s boob? Then, there’s a flashing light! Great. Pictured on the packaging that comes with this thing are a couple of teens (I’m guessing) that look like they’re getting jiggy wit it. The recall does make it clear that babies were getting their mouths around these things, based on their “due to choking hazard” warning.
Just in case you were wondering, these were sold at “various retail stores nationwide during the month of June 2007 for about $5 per dozen. ”
This is so wrong I can’t even begin.
