Thanks Meredith. yeah. I wish I didn't have those feeling. I think I should work on "the stages of cavity grief", much like the stages of grief. hehe. I think since posting this I've arrived at acceptance.

I wouldn't blame yourself for her cavity -- some people are much more prone to it than others. I ate candy like crazy and was terrible about brushing my teeth as a child and yet I never got a cavity. Adam, on the other hand, got lots of cavities as a child. Does it mean his mom was a bad mom? No, it just means that I was blessed with rock hard teeth and he wasn't (then again, I needed braces and Adam didn't, so I'd say we're even). Not all dental issues are completely preventable.

Kids are going to get cavities, scrape their knees, maybe even break a bone or two. That's childhood. If you blame yourself for every negative thing that happens like that, you will drive yourself crazy.

Hope you're feeling better!

Hey lady! I like this little slice of your life. I wanted to comment that the process of teaching BB the sign for "salt" might be more complicated than just telling him that one of the kinds of rice cakes has it and the other doesn't. He's likely to think that the sign is for rice cake. I recommend doing the sign while showing the salt shaker and verbally labeling it as salt (which he knows, I'm sure), letting him taste some (do the sign/say the name again), then have him try both of the kinds of rice cakes and ask which ones taste a little like salt (and repeat the sign). Ultimately you want him to correctly name the taste and the substance, both in sign and in English, so you'll want to use them simultaneously (we call this SimCom or Contact Signing, when you do both sign and voice at once).

Or maybe this is all too direct for a hearing child who is passively learning language all the time. I don't know! That's beyond my realm of expertise :)

Since giving up yeast, sugar and molds, I have been amazed about what has sugar in it. I have only found 3 cereals that don't have sugar. One is a very expensive and not very good Kashi and the other 2 are Jewel brand. I have been cooking things myself more often in order to avoid it. I will have to try using applesauce.
